Australian Bureau of Statistics data

The following information was found via the ABS's Moorebank community profile gathered from the 2011 census.

The above Australian Bureau of Statistics data indicates the age groups of the Moorebank suburb's population. Upon observing this information it is shown that the largest age group is 31-40yrs. We have implemented this data to reinforce the age groups of the local Moorebank community and justify the statistics found from our demographic question results.

We have included this Liverpool Leader Newspaper Article about the Moorebank intermodal causing traffic chaos to expemplify the tradgic effects which would occur due to the intermodal being constructed. As reinforced in the quotes: "The Chipping Norton resident used NSW Bureau of Transport Statistics data and a portion of the forecasted growth for five of Sydney’s existing intermodals and modelled future traffic conditions should the SIMTA project go ahead. She said roads that residents used to get to shops, medical appointments and schools would become gridlocked," and “We have trucks everywhere now without the background traffic, so in the future we won’t be able to move.” The purpose of including this secondary data is to present the impact of the project on the individual, with the cost to personal and familial values being severe.

Explanation: Why did we include this? How is it relevant?

The newspaper article from the Liverpool Champion was included due to the evidence it provided on the effects to the community and the causes and impacts of the Moorebank Intermodal. This includes a perspective from a traffic expert who presents information of the disadvantages to society and it's surroundings, "Traffic expert Narelle van den Bos, of Chipping Norton, said it would be nearly impossible for anyone to travel through Liverpool."

A range of statistics are utilised in the newspaper article through the effect of the traffic which is highlighted through the trucks and cars which would get blocked up by the traffic, presenting a very severe effect of the intermodal, "She said there could be almost 14,000 trucks every day, 600 every hour, 10 per minute or one every six seconds going in and out of the freight terminal proposed by SIMTA." The purpose of newspaper article is to make people aware of the detrimental and potential impacts of the intermodal project on the local community.

The detailed case summary of the Moorebank intermodal terminal project was issued by the Australian Commonwealth in April 2012 and lists their reasons for the Moorebank intermodal project to go ahead and potential benefits of the project. The report contains information on the concept and layout of the project; the economic, environmental and social benefits; and the key processes the government will implement to carry out this project.

We found this information particularly useful as we have been able to compare it to lobbyers' and the local community's opinions conceived throughout our conducted surveys and interviews. The report also includes an artist's interpretation of the intermodal if it was completed as well as other maps outlining the location, scale and extent of the project which has given us a more visual understanding of the project.

We have decided to include the source, Information Paper - Moorebank Intermodal - Terminal Project, to implement more information gathered from the government in relation to the details of the intermodal's construction, the environmental impacts  of the intermodal and the government's main reason to build the intermodal terminal in Moorebank. This extensive data has helped us compare the information with the results and opinions of other organisations and residents of the local community. The information says that the Moorebank intermodal terminal site is Commonwealth owned land occupied by the Department of Defence and is approximately 220 hectares in size and 2 kilometres in length. The government's main objective to placing an intermodal on the site is because of the site's size and topography as well as its proximity to key transport corridors including the Southern Sydney Freight Line, main interstate rail line and the M5 and M7 motorways.
